PET OWNER RESOURCES
Pittie Me Rescue is not able to assist with any owner surrenders or found dogs. Below you may find some helpful tips to keep your pet in their home and reduce the number of pets surrendered to the local shelter.
PLEASE understand that should you have NO OTHER choice but to take your dog to the county pound, the county shelter is not a no-kill shelter. The county shelter is at full capacity typically. Although a kill shelter, surrendering your pet is not a guarantee that they will be euthanized immediately. There are groups of volunteers that do everything in their powers to find homes for the dogs.
****Please view the lost/found pet tab for resources for lost/found pets****
Dog owner resources & re-homing your pet:
We realise that making the decision to re-home your pet may be tough and it may be for reasons out of your control. Please be sure that you have explored ALL options prior to deciding to re-home your pet (co-workers, friends, neighbors, etc). Bellow are some resources that may help to prevent having to re-home your pet.
If you decided that re-homing your pet is the only option, Pittie Me Rescues STRONGLY encourages that your dog is spayed/neutered; to ensure there are no unwanted litters. Additionally, we STRONGLY encourage you do a home visit to ensure your dog is going into a loving and safe environment. Asking for a re-homing fee also is encouraged so that the dog does not go into the wrong hands. Often times dog fighters or dog flippers look for "free" dogs.

Pet Friendly housing:
Believe it or not, there is housing in Arizona that allows you to have your dog. Although there is a limited amount of housing that allows for "breed restricted" dogs, they are out there. If you know you are moving, give yourself plenty of time to research for places that will allow for you to take your fur family member with you.
**Visit Facebook and search for Valley pet friendly rentals. This is a group of people that have houses/condos/apartments available to rent to individuals/families with pets. (Pittie Me Rescue is not affiliated with this group, just sharing resources)*******
This is a list of places that have rented with no restrictions in the past, however, pet policies change. Please contact the property directly to discuss the current pet policies. List is always changing and may not be current. Please do your own due diligence.
Also check out Facebook Page - Valley pet friendly rentals for other listings that may be able to accommodate you and your fur members.

Rescueme.org -
You can choose to post your dog on rescueme.org free of charge without belonging to a rescue. Pittie Me Rescue STRONGLY encourages that you ask for a re-homing fee and do a thorough home visit prior to placing the dog in a new home. The re-homing fee minimizes the risk that the dog will be placed in a home with bad intentions. It is also STRONGLY encouraged that the dog is neutered/spayed so to prevent any unwanted puppies or be used as a fighting or bait dog.
Your description should be positive, but truthful. You can detail out your dogs undesired behaviors, but put a positive tone to it. You don't want your description to be extra wordy. It should be a brief summary of your dog. Include details such as: is your dog housebroken? crate trained? good with dogs? what size of dogs? is the dog good with cats? Kids? what ages of kids? good on a leash? Playful? affectionate? and so on.....
Post flyers -
Post flyers at a local Starbucks, feed store, company newsletter, company bulletin board, etc. Create a colorful and cute flyer that is eye catching. Include a few GOOD pictures of your dog. The best type of pictures of dogs are ones that have a full frontal view showing their face and full body. Pictures can be worth a 1000 words and will be the first thing that catches someone's eye. The flyer should include a good description of your dog's personality, needs, etc. Keep it positive but truthful (if the dog has an undesirable issue, list it with a spin. ex: Best suited for a house without little dogs or cats, prefers to be the only pet in the house, is selective of their fur friends). It is STRONGLY encouraged to do a home visit and ask lost of questions prior to placing the dog. This ensures that your are placing your dog in a good home. Pittie Me Rescue STRONGLY encourages that the dog is spayed/neutered, if not already, prior to being re-homed so not to be used for breeding or as a bait/fighting dog.
IMPORTANT: ALWAYS do a home visit with the person your are re-homing your pet with. A home visit allows you to determine if the dog will be living in an environment that is best suited for them. Many times people that run dog fighting rings and people that are paid to supply animals for testing facilities go online and pose as adopters.
Short term boarding -
If you are needing a place for your dog to go for only a short time. Consider placing your dog in a reputable boarding facility. Although not ideal, you know that your dog is safe, you can visit, they will get positive attention, eat regularly and be exercised. Contact facility directly for specific requirements for your dog to stay. Pittie Me Rescue is not affiliated with any of these boarding facilities. These are just resources. Please do your own research to determine if the facilities meets your and your dog's needs.
